EMBRAER SELECTS AMETEK AEROSPACE & DEFENSE FOR CRITICAL ENGINE SENSORS FOR ITS PHENOM 100 AND 300 BUSINESS JETS

WILMINGTON, MA - Embraer (Empresa Brasilieira de Aeronautica S.A.) has selected AMETEK Aerospace & Defense to provide critical engine components for both its Phenom 100 very light and Phenom 300 light business jets. These include advanced fuel flow meters, pressure transducers and temperature sensors.

Our participation with Embraer on these programs extends a long-standing relationship that includes AMETEK products aboard the entire fleet of Embraer aircraft," he adds.

AMETEK's newly introduced Turbo-Mass turbine fuel flow meter will be incorporated aboard both the Phenom 100 and 300 jets to monitor engine fuel consumption rates. The new solid-state Turbo-Mass flow meter was specifically developed for the light business jet and helicopter markets and is the lightest, smallest flow meter in its class.

Although based on a simple turbine design with only one moving part, the Turbo-Mass measures output in mass flow units (pph) rather than volumetric flow units (gph). The Turbo-Mass accomplishes this by continuously monitoring fuel temperature within the flow meter and its correlation to density changes. Volumetric flow rate and fuel temperature also are available simultaneously through additional signals.

Aboard the Phenom 100, AMETEK has combined pressure transducers and temperature sensors into a single Main Oil Pressure and Temperature (MOPT) package. At the core of the new MOPT sensor package is AMETEK's innovative Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) pressure-sensing technology that offers superior accuracy, temperature performance and life cycle reliability versus competitive transducer technologies.

In addition, AMETEK SOI-based transducers incorporate a patent-pending Field Shield that eliminates accuracy drift over extended cycles and elevated temperatures - a critical factor in the proper monitoring and performance of turbine engine systems. This unique design improvement allows AMETEK SOI-based transducers to remain within design accuracy appreciably longer than competing transducers, resulting in more accurate system performance and reduced cost of ownership for aircraft operators.

Completing the new MOPT sensor package is a Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) temperature sensor that has been added to the pressure sensing zone of the sensor housing. The unique combination of the MOPT sensor package's functions not only makes engine installation easier but also provides the desired signal information at the optimal location on the engine, allowing for more precise engine monitoring and enhanced operational life.

Embraer is a world leader in commercial aircraft with over 35 years of experience in developing aircraft for the global airline, corporate and defense markets. Its Phenom 100 will carry up to eight occupants and be powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada's PW617 engines with 1,615 pounds of thrust. Its range will be 1,160 nautical miles with four people aboard and a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.70. The single-pilot aircraft is expected to enter service in mid-2008.

The Phenom 300 will accommodate up to nine passengers and be powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney Canada's PW535E engines with 3,200 pounds of thrust each. It will have a range of 1,800 nautical miles with six persons aboard and have a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.78. Designed for short-field takeoff performance and an operating ceiling of 45,000 feet, the Phenom 300 is expected to enter service in mid-2009.
