WILMINGTON, MA, USA - Försvarets Materielverk (FMV), the Swedish Ministry of Defense Procurement, has ordered three Griffon 8000TD hovercraft for the Swedish Amphibious Battalion fitted with an Aircontrol Technologies AC 168 Collective Protection System for the filtration of nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) agents.
The Griffon 8000TD is the latest, largest and most powerful hovercraft offered by Griffon Hovercraft Ltd. - the world leader in small- to medium-sized amphibious hovercraft-and a "stretched" version of the well-proven commercial Griffon 8000TD with a 50% greater cargo capacity.
In its military role, the 8000TD is particularly useful for amphibious assault, logistics support and fast attack. The highly versatile craft is able to carry a 12-ton payload of cargo, troops, and conventional or tracked vehicles. It is capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots (46 mph or 74 kms/hr) with a full payload (zero wind zero wave conditions) and will operate over very shallow water, rapids, ice, mud, sand, swamp or debris.
The Aircontrol Technologies AC 168 NBC System provides the closed-down hovercraft with filtered, agent-free air that is heated or cooled before being delivered to the vehicle’s interior.
